The Truth About My Writing Routine (Spoiler: It’s Not That Routine)

Some days, writing looks like a dream. Coffee in hand, the sun just starts to rise, and the words flow like I actually know what I’m doing. I’ll knock out 2,000 words before lunch and feel like a literary goddess.

Other days?

It’s caffeinated chaos. I open the laptop, stare at the blinking cursor, write 100 words… then delete 150.

The dogs are barking, someone needs something, and suddenly I’m wondering if alphabetizing my spice rack counts as “productive procrastination.”

Here’s the reality: My desk starts out clean. Tidy. Hopeful.

By 4pm, it’s a war zone. Me hunched over my keyboard, or pacing the floor, hair a mess from frustrated fingers, scribbled notes everywhere, a cold cup of coffee, maybe a granola bar wrapper or two, and at LEAST 2 dogs who think that my plot struggles are entertaining while they sit staring at me as I mumble to myself.

Creativity’s messy, and does not like to follow a neat and tidy routine, apparently.

📚 If you're a writer or reader—what does your creative space look like by the end of the day?
